What does this chart show?

This chart answers a simple question: if you had invested $100 into each of these major stock market indices on the same day in January 1992, what would it be worth today? Each line starts at 100 and moves up or down in proportion to the actual index, so a value of 800 means that original $100 has grown to $800. Scroll to zoom in and out. Drag left and right to pan through history. Note: the index lines are price returns only and do not include dividends reinvested. Total returns with dividends reinvested would be meaningfully higher; the one exception is the MSCI EAFE line, which runs on an ETF's adjusted closes and therefore already includes reinvested distributions. One housekeeping note: the US Total Market line's values before 1995 come from that index's predecessor, the Wilshire 5000, joined at the changeover so the line reads continuously.
