Discretionary Model Portfolios

Portfolio Models

Four discretionary model portfolios spanning the full risk spectrum, from capital preservation to aggressive growth. Each model is constructed using a disciplined asset allocation framework and includes access to investment products unavailable through public markets alone.

* Risk labels (Conservative through High Risk) are Maple Groove's own categorization, not a regulatory rating.

Research Discipline

Every Holding Earns Its Place

No product enters a model portfolio on a pitch or a headline. Each candidate moves through a five-stage research pipeline, and only a documented pass earns it a slot. The published models below are the first entries in that library: the analysis you can read is the analysis the decision was made on.

01Intake

Where the idea came from and which portfolio slot it would fill. No slot, no go.

02Verification

Independent fund data: category, quartile ranks, fees, manager tenure. Wholesaler decks are a lead, never the evidence.

03The model

A dated analytical model built for the holding: benchmark and peer comparison, fee drag, downside behaviour, base and bear scenarios.

04Decision memo

A written thesis with explicit sell triggers and a pre-mortem, approved or rejected in writing.

05Publish

Only then does the holding earn a slot, and its model publishes here so you can read the reasoning.

Examples of How We Look Into Investment Holdings

Two published models from the pipeline above, shown so you can see the depth of work behind every holding decision.

PREF: Split-Share Preferred Downside Model
Preferred-share income, a candidate for the fixed income sleeve of the income-oriented models.
ETF Facts risk rating: Low (Quadravest ETF Facts; monthly fact sheet to 31 Jul 2026)

Split-corporation preferred shares can pay a dependable yield, but the safety depends entirely on how much asset coverage sits above the preferred's claim. Before any client dollar went in, this model mapped where each of the eleven underlying split corporations sits relative to its Class A cut line, and how far markets would have to fall before the preferred distributions themselves are at risk.

VEQT: All-Equity Scenario Model
Global equity core, a candidate for the broad-market equity sleeve of the growth models.
ETF Facts risk rating: Medium (Vanguard ETF Facts, 16 Jul 2026) · Category: Global Equity

One ticker holding roughly 14,000 stocks looks simple until you ask how it actually behaves. This model rebuilds VEQT from its four regional sleeves and stress-tests it against real historical episodes: the 2022 rate shock, the 2008 and 2020 drawdowns, a US mega-cap selloff, and a rising loonie. Understanding the structure in numbers comes before any recommendation.
